TN E-Pass To Ooty and Kodaikanal

As the summer heat intensifies, popular tourist spots like Ooty in Nilgiri district and Kodaikanal in Dindigul district are witnessing an unusual inflow of visitors, worsening the yearly issue of limited parking space and heavy traffic congestion.

Summer Vacation To Ooty and Kodaikanal:

The wave in tourist visits, particularly during the months of April and May, has posed significant challenges for tourists and locals alike. Families travelling in private vehicles, predominantly cars, struggle to find adequate parking arrangements, leading to gridlocked roads and inconvenience.

Madras High Court TN E-Pass Order:

In response to mounting concerns, the Madras High Court has intervened, issuing a climactic order aimed at helping the congestion woes plaguing these picturesque destinations. Effective tomorrow, May 7, until June 30, the court has mandated the requirement of an electronic pass (e-pass) for all individuals intending to visit the Nilgiris and the Kodaikanal.

The proactive measure aims to regulate tourism and streamline traffic management during the peak summer season. Travellers are advised to promptly apply for the e-pass, with registration now open and accessible through the official portal at epass.tnega.org.

Why E-Pass implemented in Ooty and Kodaikanal?

Notably, the Government of Tamil Nadu has clarified that commuters travelling to the Nilgiris via government-operated buses will be exempt from the e-pass requirement, offering a viable alternative for those seeking to explore the region's scenic beauty without the hassle of securing additional permits.

The imposition of the e-pass system represents a concerted effort by authorities to strike a balance between facilitating tourism and preserving the tranquillity and accessibility of tourist spots. With this Epass, the administration aims to ensure a less chaotic and enjoyable tourist experience without affecting the locals.

As travellers adapt to the new regulations, stakeholders hope these measures foster sustainable tourism practices and enhance the overall visitor experience in Ooty, Kodaikanal, and beyond.
