BMW has expanded its X1 lineup in India by launching the X1 Long Wheelbase (LWB). Priced at Rs 49.90 lakh (ex-showroom), the new version is designed primarily for buyers who want additional rear-seat space without moving up to a larger luxury SUV.
BMW X1 LWB sits alongside the standard-wheelbase X1 and the electric iX1 in BMW's Indian portfolio. Interestingly, the long-wheelbase model is Rs 1 lakh cheaper than the standard X1 and Rs 1.50 lakh more affordable than the iX1 LWB.
BMW X1 LWB: Exterior Design
The biggest visual difference between the X1 LWB and the regular model is its stretched profile. The SUV measures 4,616mm in length, making it 116mm longer than the standard X1.
Its wheelbase has also been extended by 108mm to 2,800mm, with most of the additional length dedicated to improving passenger comfort in the second row.
X1 LWB gets a chrome window line, silver inserts on the door sills and rear bumper, and 18-inch alloy wheels. The LED headlamps and tail lamps continue the standard X1 design.
BMW is offering the SUV in four exterior shades: Mineral White, Carbon Black, Night Dusk Blue and Skyscraper Grey.
BMW X1 LWB: Interior and Features
The extended wheelbase brings its biggest advantage inside the cabin. BMW has increased the rear-seat cushion length by 15mm, while the longer wheelbase creates 109mm of additional knee room for rear passengers.
The cabin features BMW's curved display, combining the digital instrument cluster and infotainment system. Other equipment includes a fixed glass roof, wireless charging, powered front seats and reclining rear seats.
Boot capacity is 540 litres, expandable to 1,700 litres when the rear seats are folded.
BMW X1 LWB: Engine and Performance
BMW X1 LWB is powered by a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 154bhp and 230Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
BMW continues to offer a 2.0-litre diesel engine with the standard-wheelbase X1, but the diesel option is not available with the new long-wheelbase version.
