The Story: A True-Life Sports Drama
Mari Selvaraj is known for making films that are not only entertaining but also carry a strong social message. 'Bison' is no different. It is based on the true story of Manathi Ganesan, a former Indian Kabaddi player, and his remarkable journey.
Dhruv Vikram truly transformed for the role of a Kabaddi player. His intense acting, body language, and believable transformation into a village youth have received widespread appreciation. The film tells the deeply emotional story of how a simple boy from a village overcomes challenges in the sport of Kabaddi and eventually makes it to the Indian team.
Praise and Gratitude
This success isn't just because of Dhruv Vikram. The strong cast, which includes a Malayalam actress as the heroine and many other actors, such as Pasupathy, has all added great strength to Mari Selvaraj's storytelling. The response from the film industry has been phenomenal.
Even Superstar Rajinikanth praised the film, saying, "Mari Selvaraj has a unique way of telling social stories! Dhruv Vikram's acting has honesty!" Directors like Vetrimaaran and Pa. Ranjith also took to social media to congratulate the team for delivering such a powerful story.
'Bison' was produced by Pa. Ranjith's Neelam Studios and Applause Entertainment. Its collection of over ₹70 crores globally proves that people will always support a good, honest cinema that tells an important story.
The Director
'Bison' is a sports thriller about a young man who breaks social barriers and succeeds despite deep-rooted caste and social inequalities. The film is based on the life of Arjuna Award winner Manathi Ganesan, with Mari Selvaraj's own life experiences also incorporated.
Most of the filming was done in Mari Selvaraj's hometown villages in the Tirunelveli district. As a result, the local villagers worked closely with the film crew. Following the film's success, Mari Selvaraj met the villagers who had worked with him to thank them and even hosted a feast for them.
He posted emotionally on 'X' (formerly Twitter), saying that the huge success of 'Bison' was made possible by the dedication and support of the people from the villages, the Kabaddi players, and the coaches who worked alongside him.
