The much-anticipated third chapter of the Drishyam franchise is officially on its way. Mohanlal confirmed that Drishyam 3 will have a worldwide theatrical release on April 2, 2026. The actor made the announcement on X using the hashtag #Drishyam3, instantly sparking buzz among fans.
The project carries special significance, as Mohanlal began work on it around the time he was honoured with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award last year, Indian cinema's highest recognition.
Director Jeethu Joseph has revealed that the film will explore the next phase of Georgekutty's life, the character who became iconic in the earlier instalments. The story picks up nearly 4.5 years after the events of Drishyam 2, focusing on the new challenges and developments in Georgekutty's world. According to the director, this time jump forms the backbone of the narrative.
Producer Antony Perumbavoor, a long-time collaborator of Mohanlal and a driving force behind the franchise, explained that the team moved forward with the third part only after detailed discussions. The extraordinary response to the first two films convinced them that Georgekutty's journey deserved a meaningful continuation. After in-depth conversations with Jeethu Joseph, the third film was finally greenlit.
Filming took place across scenic locations in Thodupuzha and Vagamon, with the final stretch of shooting completed in Ernakulam. The production wrapped in December 2025, and the movie is currently in post-production.
The core cast, including Meena, Ansiba Hassan, and Esther Anil, return to reprise their roles, once again portraying Georgekutty's family. The film is expected to serve as the franchise's concluding chapter.
Reports suggest that distributors have agreed to a minimum four-week exclusive theatrical run before the film heads to OTT platforms. Meanwhile, a separate Hindi adaptation is also being planned, with its theatrical release scheduled for October 2, 2026.
With the release date locked, Drishyam 3 is shaping up to be one of the most eagerly awaited films of 2026, as audiences prepare to witness the next twist in Georgekutty's life.
