Why Did Ilaiyaraaja Send Copyright Notice To Coolie Movie Team?

Coolie Movie Issue

Despite his case in Madras High Court, Ilaiyaraaja sent a copyright notice against Rajinikanth's Movie Coolie directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, for using his song "Va Va Pakkam Va" from the movie Thangamagan.

Which song was recreated in Coolie Movie Title Teaser?

Lokesh Kanagaraj is well known for recreating the old song in his movies. In this case, he used the song "Va Va Pakkam Va" in the movie Coolie title teaser. The song was originally from the Movie Thangamagan and sung by SP Balasubramanyam and Vani Jayaram. The song was featured by Rajinikanth himself and Silk Smitha.

Ilaiyaraaja Send Copyright Notice To Coolie Team:

After acknowledging the song used in Coolie title teaser, offended by not getting the previous notice for his song use, Ilaiyaraaja sent a copyright notice to Sun Pictures for claiming his song without his permission. He further acknowledged that the song needed to be removed from the teaser or he would take further legal action against the movie team.

Ilaiyaraaja Case For Claiming Song Rights:

To note, Ilaiyaraaja recently filed a complaint against  Echo Recording Company for selling his song without paying him. In the Madras High Court, the Echo company replied to the claims by stating that the Echo purchased the song from the movie's respective producers.

This makes fans split into two, one taking the side of the music Maestro Ilaiyaraaja and the other the side of Coolie Team.
