The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) Revising Committee is set to rewatch Thalapathy Vijay's upcoming film Jana Nayagan on March 9 at 2 pm, sources said. The development comes as the film undergoes recensorship, delaying clarity on its theatrical release timeline.
Sources said the film's producers, KVN Productions, received an official notification from the CBFC on March 8 outlining the revised screening schedule.
The revising committee was initially scheduled to watch the film earlier, but the screening was cancelled at the last minute. According to sources familiar with the matter, the certification board informed the production team that one of the committee members assigned to review the film had fallen ill, forcing the cancellation of that day's screening.
The rescheduled viewing on March 9 will allow the committee to complete its evaluation before issuing the film's final certification.
Until the certification process is completed, the official theatrical release date for Jana Nayagan remains unclear. However, industry speculation suggests the film may be released after the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
The release timing has drawn attention, given Vijay's growing political involvement and the heightened interest in the film.
Meanwhile, another major upcoming film, Yash's Toxic, has reportedly been postponed to June 4 due to ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, which are affecting global film distribution and promotional schedules.
With that shift, Jana Nayagan is also expected to target a June release window, although the makers have made no official announcement.
For now, the film's release will depend on the CBFC Revising Committee's screening and certification decision, which could determine the next steps for the makers ahead of its theatrical debut.
