Hurdles faced by Jana Nayagan
The makers submitted the film to the censor board on December 18 2025, but the final certificate was not issued to the filmmakers immediately. The CBFC raised multiple concerns, including scenes that were too close to real political personalities or current events, and some dialogues that were provocative or one-sided.
And the CBFC asked the makers to edit some scenes and mute dialogues that could mislead the community politically. On January 6 2026, the makers approached the high court, stating that the certification was being unreasonably withheld and that the delay was causing financial strain.
Several other fans expressed disappointment with the CBFC for wrongly delaying the film's certification. Still, there was no official statement from the actor-turned-politician leader of the TVK political party, Vijay, regarding the delay.
Jana Nayagan is expected to be release after the TN election
The team is planning a post-election release, with overseas distributors being told to expect either April 24, just a day after voting, or April 30, once CBFC clearance is sorted following delays over political content.
The timing seems deliberate, aiming to capitalise on the summer holiday season and Vijay's strong fan following in Tamil Nadu, with fans already building hype by sharing posters and clips online.
There is speculation about the film's release. Since the model code of conduct is active for the upcoming election on April 23 in Tamil Nadu. If this goes smoothly, the film is expected to be released on April 30, but there is no official announcement from the makers yet, and fans are eagerly waiting.
