Emphasizing unity, former Congress president Rahul Gandhi is going on a Padayatra from Kanyakumari to Kashmir. Rahul Gandhi arrived in Chennai the day before yesterday to participate in the inaugural function of the Padayatra named 'Bharat Jodo Yatra'.

Later yesterday morning, he went to the memorial of his father Rajiv Gandhi at Sriperumbudur in the Kancheepuram district and paid his respects. He planted a sapling there and hoisted the party flag. Then he returned to Chennai. Then at 4.30 pm in Kanyakumari yesterday, Chief Minister M. K. Stalin presented the national flag to Rahul Gandhi in front of Gandhi Mandapam and started the Padayatra.

After receiving it, he left there on a pilgrimage and spoke at a public meeting on the beach road. After the public meeting, Rahul Gandhi drove to Vivekananda College ground in Agastheeswaram. He rested in the 'caravan' there. Senior leaders and executives of the Congress party who accompanied him on the Padayatra stayed in separate 'caravans'.

The Padayatra is held in two 'shifts' from 7 am to 10 am and from 4 pm to 7 pm. From the 11th, Rahul Gandhi will be on a padayatra in Kerala. Today, on the 2nd day of Padayatra, he starts his walk from Agastheeswaram. In this case, Rahul Gandhi paid homage by hoisting the national flag before starting the walk from Agastheeswaram.
