There are three processes to do before you cross the toll plaza with FASTag. They are
- Buy a FASTag sticker from Toll Plaza point-of-sale with your Vehicle RC, Aadhar card or E-Aadhar and personal details in person, or from your bank either in person or through online.
- Affix the FASTag sticker on your vehicle windshield. So, the RFID readers at the toll plaza will read the label and debit the toll fee automatically while you pass through the toll plaza.
- FASTag activation will be done instantly from Toll Plaza purchase.
How to Buy A FASTag at NHAI? Through NHAI, FASTag stickers can only be bought in person. The NHAI has afforded no online ways. To get a FASTag sticker at NHAI, you need to get to the nearest NHAI POS (Point-of-Sale). Submit your Vehicle Registration Documents and Personal details like Adhaar and Driving Licence and get the FASTag sticker. The standard fee for joining is Rs. 200 and another Rs. 300 will be charged to add it in your FASTag wallet, which is existing price details. Now the NHAI is doing the joining process for free until December 1, 2019.
How to get for FASTag in NHAI certified banks? Around 22 banks across the nation have been participating in encouraging FASTag. One can directly walk to the certified banks to get the FASTag so they can attach your FASTag to your existing bank account in that bank from which the RFID scanner deducts money while crossing a toll. One can also visit the websites of ICICI, HDFC and AXIS banks to get the tags online.

How to Buy FASTag through Amazon and PayTM? National Highway Authority of India has permitted Amazon India and PayTM to sell FASTags from their platforms. One can just visit the Amazon website to order a tag by paying INR-500 and activate the tag later on your own. Through PayTM, one can buy the tags for INR-100 except for the owners of the car, jeep, and van as PayTm giving the tags free for them.
How to Activate the FASTag? NHAI has opened a mobile app portal in the name of FASTag to activate the FASTag. The app can be downloaded from the Google Play Store and Apple Store. All the offline bought FASTags are 'Bank-Neutral,' so any bank account can be attached to the FASTag. One can easily activate the FASTag by entering the details and add it to any existing bank account. People can also use the NHAI prepaid wallet by loading the wallet with money by transferring from any bank account. The banks would activate the FASTags that are bought from the bank.
