India Rebuts Pakistan at UN Over Terror Claims, Operation Sindoor
India strongly countered Pakistan at the United Nations Security Council, rejecting what it called a misleading, self-serving narrative about Operation Sindoor.
India's Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, accused Islamabad of misusing the international platform to distort facts and deflect attention from its long-standing role in sponsoring cross-border terrorism.
The remarks came in the context of the April 2025 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, where 26 innocent civilians were killed. India reminded the Security Council that the same UN body had unequivocally called for holding the perpetrators, organisers, financiers and sponsors of the attack accountable. New Delhi maintained that the assault was carried out by Pakistan-backed terrorists, a charge Islamabad continues to deny.
India stated that Operation Sindoor, launched in May 2025, was a measured, responsible and non-escalatory response aimed solely at dismantling terrorist infrastructure and neutralising imminent threats.
The Indian envoy dismissed Pakistan's claims of emerging victorious, pointing out that evidence of damage to multiple Pakistani air bases, including destroyed runways and burnt hangars, is already in the public domain.
Ambassador Harish further revealed that despite aggressive posturing, Pakistan sought a cessation of hostilities on May 10, when its military directly contacted Indian authorities to halt the fighting. Until then, Islamabad had continued to issue threats of further attacks, India said.
On Jammu and Kashmir, India reiterated that the region. It will always remain an integral and inalienable part of India, asserting that Pakistan has no standing to comment on India's internal matters.
India also addressed concerns surrounding the Indus Waters Treaty, noting that the agreement was signed over 65 years ago in good faith. Pakistan has repeatedly violated the spirit of the treaty through wars and decades of cross-border terrorism, resulting in the loss of thousands of Indian lives.
Concluding its remarks, India urged Pakistan to reflect on its own adherence to the rule of law and democratic principles, and to focus on addressing internal challenges rather than advancing misleading narratives on international platforms.
