The incident where a young man tried to commit suicide after pouring petrol on a woman who refused to fall in love with him has caused shock. Such cases are frequently happening in the Kerala district for love rejection and threatening dowry.

Krishnapriya (22) hails in Thikkodi near Kozhikode, Kerala. A postgraduate student in Computer Science joined the Thikkodi Panchayat office as a temporary employee for the last eight days. Nandu (26) is from the same area, and he is working as a daily wage labourer. Nandu has been in love with Krishnapriya for the past few months.

At one point, to express his love to Krishnapriya, she refuses to accept. He is said to have continued to harass Krishnapriya by proposing repeatedly. Krishnapriya arrived at the Thikkodi panchayat office yesterday morning as usual. Nandakumar, who followed him, has been forced to accept his love again.

Krishnapriya seems to have refused and been scolded. Angered by this, Nandu suddenly poured the petrol he had hidden with him and set Krishnapriya on fire. Meanwhile, Nandakumar came out of the panchayat office, poured petrol on himself and set himself on fire. This incident happened Friday morning (Yesterday) at 10 AM.

Hearing the screams of the two, the neighbours who came there put out the fire and rushed the two to the hospital. The duo was taken to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital. Krishnapriya succumbed to death by evening as she had 98% burnt. Nandakumar is undergoing intensive treatment.

The incident has come as a shock to Kerala. Social activists have expressed concern over the recent rise in killing women in Kerala due to such one-sided love and dowry atrocities.
