IAF Trainer Makes Safe Pond Landing After Engine Trouble

An Indian Air Force (IAF) trainee aircraft crashed into a pond in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj on Wednesday during a routine training sortie. Both pilots onboard escaped safely after the aircraft developed a technical snag in its engine, officials confirmed.

According to authorities, the trainer aircraft was on a sortie towards the Phaphamau and Sangam areas when the malfunction occurred. Sensing the issue, the pilots activated the aircraft's recovery system. They carried out a controlled and safe landing in a pond near KP College, under the jurisdiction of the George Town police station.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Manish Shandilya said two pilots were onboard at the time of the incident and both followed standard safety procedures, which helped prevent any casualties. The aircraft came down in an open area away from the main city, minimising the risk to civilians and property.

Local police, fire brigade teams, and divers, along with nearby residents, rushed to the spot and played a crucial role in the rescue operation. The pilots were safely pulled out and sustained no injuries.

The Indian Air Force has initiated a technical investigation to ascertain the cause of the engine malfunction. Officials said all safety protocols were followed during the sortie, and further details will emerge once the inquiry is completed.
