Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 7 inaugurated two new corridors of the Delhi Metro, including India's first fully operational 'Ring Metro' on the Pink Line, expanding the capital's rapid transit network and improving connectivity across several parts of the city.

The newly opened Majlis Park-Maujpur Babarpur corridor is about 12.3 km long and includes eight elevated stations. With the addition of this stretch, the Pink Line now extends to approximately 71.56 km, making it India's first operational metro corridor that forms a complete ring around the city.

Majlis Park-Maujpur Corridor

The stations on this corridor include Majlis Park, Burari, Jharoda Majra, Jagatpur-Wazirabad, Soorghat, Nanaksar-Sonia Vihar, Khajuri Khas, Bhajanpura, Yamuna Vihar and Maujpur-Babarpur. The line also features a new bridge over the Yamuna River and a double-decker viaduct, which carries both the metro line and a road flyover.

Deepali Chowk-Majlis Park Extension

The Prime Minister also inaugurated the Deepali Chowk-Majlis Park corridor on the Magenta Line. The 9.9 km elevated extension includes seven stations: Deepali Chowk, Madhuban Chowk, Uttar Pitampura-Prashant Vihar, Haiderpur Village, Haiderpur Badli Mor, Bhalswa and Majlis Park. With this extension, the Magenta Line now stretches to about 49 km.

Sections of the Deepali Chowk-Majlis Park corridor rise to a height of around 28.36 metres, making it one of the highest elevated stretches in the Delhi Metro network.

Golden Line Extensions to Improve Airport and Noida Connectivity

During the event, Modi also laid the foundation stone for three new metro corridors under Phase-V (A) of the Delhi Metro expansion plan. These include the 9.913 km underground Central Vista corridor, which will run from Ramakrishna Ashram Marg to Indraprastha and include stations such as Shivaji Stadium, Central Secretariat, India Gate, War Memorial-High Court, Baroda House, Bharat Mandapam and Indraprastha. The corridor is expected to improve access to key government offices and cultural landmarks in central Delhi.

The other two projects are extensions of the Golden Line. The Aerocity to Indira Gandhi International Airport Terminal-1 extension will be a 2.263 km underground stretch with one new station. Meanwhile, the 3.9 km Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj extension will be an elevated corridor with stations at Sarita Vihar Depot, Madanpur Khadar and Kalindi Kunj.

According to officials, the Tughlakabad-Kalindi Kunj extension will improve connectivity for commuters from Noida, allowing easier access to south Delhi and the airport through the metro network.

The new corridors are part of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation's long-term plan to expand the network and ease congestion in the national capital by providing faster and more efficient public transport.
