Prime Minister Narendra Modi added a touch of humour to diplomacy during his visit to Israel, when he met the cast and crew of the globally acclaimed Israeli television series Fauda.

The interaction, marked by warmth and wit, quickly caught the attention of social media users in both countries.

Sharing a cheerful group selfie with the team on his official X account, PM Modi joked that the meeting "required only a selfie, no undercover work!", a playful nod to the show's intense espionage and counterterrorism theme.

The light-hearted caption resonated widely, drawing positive reactions from Indian and Israeli audiences alike.

Fauda, which revolves around an elite undercover counterterrorism unit, has built a strong fan base in India over the years. The gripping series is praised for its realistic storytelling and high-octane drama.

Its popularity in India even led to an official Indian adaptation titled Tanaav, which premiered on SonyLIV and reimagined the narrative within a local context.

The Prime Minister's interaction with the Fauda team highlighted not just cultural appreciation but also the growing people-to-people ties between India and Israel. Beyond strategic and economic cooperation, cultural exchanges have increasingly played a key role in strengthening bilateral relations.

Last year, as part of India's push to position itself as a global film production hub, an Indian Film Festival was organised in Israel. The festival opened with filmmaker Kiran Rao's critically acclaimed Laapataa Ladies.

Other celebrated Indian films, including Dangal, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, English Vinglish, and 777 Charlie, were also screened during the event, which ran until March 8.

PM Modi's brief selfie moment with the Fauda cast underscored the power of cinema and storytelling in building cross-cultural connections. Sometimes, diplomacy needs more than meetings and agreements, sometimes, it just needs a smile and a selfie.
