The Supreme Court has ordered the release of 6 people, including Nalini, serving jail terms in former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi's murder case. Nalini, Jayakumar, Ravichandran, Murugan, Chandan, Robert Pius and Perarivalan were in jail for more than 30 years in the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi murder case. The Supreme Court released Perarivalan on May 18.

Following this, Nalini and others filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking their release from prison. They cited why Perarivalan had already been released by the Supreme Court and requested that they be released.

In the reply filed by the Tamil Nadu government in this case, the Tamil Nadu government has granted indefinite parole to Ravichandran, who was in jail. As a result, he is now at his relative's house. Similarly, Nalini has been granted release from last 27.12.2021.

The judgment also stated that the conduct of the six persons in the jail was satisfactory. The Supreme Court has ruled based on good conduct, education in prison and parole terms.
