A shocking incident has taken place in Wayanad, Kerala, where the second-year student of the College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences has committed suicide after 29 hours of assault.

J S Sidharthan, aged 20, was studying in the second year at the College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences in Wayanad. He committed suicide by hanging himself in the bathroom of the men’s hostel on February 18. 

CBI reports that Siddharth was tortured by his seniors and classmates from 9 am on February 16 to 2 pm on February 17. He was assaulted using belts and was subjected to cruel ragging, physical attacks, and mental torture, the primary investigation details in the case file revealed.

It is confirmed that he was assaulted for 29 hours from 9 am on February 16 to 2 pm on February 17 by his seniors and peers before he committed suicide. On April 5, The central agency lodged an FIR against 20 persons in connection with his death, invoking charges of criminal conspiracy and abetment to suicide as well as provisions of the Kerala Prohibition of Ragging Act.

The investigation is taken over by Kerala police by CBI and registering new FIR under IPC Sections 120 (criminal conspiracy), 306 (abetment to suicide), 323 (causing hurt), 342 (illegal confinement), 506 (threatening), 355 (assault) and Section 4 Section 4, 3 of The Kerala Prohibition of Ragging Act.

The university has suspended all 18 who are booked under the above-mentioned cases. The family alleged that J S Sidharthan starved of food and water for nearly three days. This tragic incident has bombed the political parties.
