Elevation on 2 Judges: The Central Government is seemed to disagree with the case proceedings done by the Supreme Court regarding the elevation of Anirutha Bose (Jharkhand High Court Chief Justice) and A.S Bopanna (Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court). The SC recommended the Centre to seek this issue as soon as possible, about the judges of the apex court.

The sources said that there is no clear reason or justification for the elevation of 2 judges and we came to know that, the seniority principle of promotion is not applied and there is no transparency in making decisions is the major cause for approaching SC.

In terms of elevation process, Justice Bose ranks 12 according to the serial number and Justice Bopanna stands at 36 based on the seniority of High Court judges throughout the country. While Justice Bose is from Calcutta HC and Justice Bopanna from Karnataka High court.

As per records, the only judge moved from Calcutta High Court to Supreme Court is Justice Indira Banerjee. But there are 2 judges from the Karnataka HC namely, Justices Mohan. M. Shantanagoudar and S. Abdul Nazeer, who was in the top court. Also, the 5 judge Collegium was headed by CJI and they made the decision of Elevating these 2 judges.

The 5-judge collegium (except CJI) comprises of Justices S.A Bobde, N.V Ramana, Arun Mishra and R.F Nariman has analyzed various factors such as seniority, merit and personality of the candidate before proceeding into elevation.

Justice Bose was appointed on 19th January 2004, as the Judge of Calcutta High Court and later he has been elevated to Jharkhand High Court as the Chief Justice on 11th August 2018. Meanwhile, Justice Bopanna is also appointed as the Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court.
