Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay announced on March 7, 2026, a women-focused manifesto outlining a series of welfare and safety initiatives to improve financial security and social support for women across Tamil Nadu.
The announcement comes ahead of International Women's Day and the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, with the party highlighting women's empowerment as a key priority.
One of the central promises in the manifesto is monthly financial assistance of ₹2,500 to eligible homemakers aged 60 and below. The proposal aims to strengthen the economic independence of women who manage households.
The party also promised six free LPG cylinders per household each year as part of its subsidy initiatives to reduce the cost of essential household needs.
In the transportation sector, TVK proposed free bus travel for women through a scheme titled "Vetrikku Payanam" (Journey to Victory). The initiative is intended to support mobility and ease commuting expenses for women across the state.
The manifesto also emphasises women's safety and welfare. The party proposed establishing a special department dedicated to the safety of women and children, to be directly monitored by the TVK leadership.
The plan also includes installing smart safety buttons in public transport vehicles to help women seek assistance quickly during emergencies.
In addition to financial and safety measures, the manifesto outlines several social welfare benefits.
These include a promise of one gold pawn for weddings and reports of a gold ring for newborns as part of family welfare initiatives.
The party also announced an education assistance program offering ₹15,000 for women, aimed at encouraging higher education and improving access to learning opportunities.
The measures announced by TVK are designed to strengthen women's financial independence, safety, and social support systems across Tamil Nadu as the state approaches the upcoming assembly elections.
