India has successfully launched PSLV-C62, carrying the EOS-N1 Earth Observation satellite and 14 co-passenger payloads, from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC-SHAR), Sriharikota, on January 12, 2026. The rocket lifted off smoothly after a 22.5-hour countdown, injecting the satellites into a planned Sun Synchronous Orbit, while a KID capsule was placed on a controlled re-entry trajectory

Standing 44.4 metres tall with a lift-off mass of 260 tonnes, PSLV-C62 is the 64th mission of ISRO’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle and the fifth flight of the PSLV-DL variant. The flawless launch marks a major confidence boost for ISRO, especially after a previous PSLV mission faced technical challenges during satellite deployment.

The primary payload, EOS-N1, is designed to strengthen India’s Earth observation capabilities. The satellite will support key applications, including environmental monitoring, agriculture assessment, disaster management, and strategic surveillance, enhancing both civilian and national security operations.

The mission was carried out under the leadership of ISRO Chairman S. Somanath, with teams from ISRO and NewSpace India Limited (NSIL) closely coordinating launch operations.

With this successful mission, India once again demonstrated the reliability of PSLV and reinforced its position as a leading spacefaring nation capable of executing complex, multi-payload launches with precision.
