Tamil Nadu Medical College has received the norms from the National Medical Commission for establishing new medical colleges in six districts in Tamil Nadu.
National Medical Commission:
As per the National Medical Commission there are certain norms to establish the six new medical colleges in Tamil Nadu. These new medical colleges are scheduled to be established in six locations across the state, namely Mayiladuthurai, Tirupattur, Tenkasi, Perambalur, Arakkonam, and Ranipet. This development is expected to significantly improve access to medical education and healthcare services in these areas.
In this regard a meeting was held on May 6, 2024 to discuss on the establishmnet of News Government Hospital in phased manner in the state through centrally sponsored scheme.
Additional Chief Secretary (Health) made a detailed presentation on the list of Government Medical College hospitals available in the state, NMC norms for establishing the New Medical College hospital, service delivery details of the 6 government Headquarters Hospitals proposed for converting to new medical colleges and its Status of land availability.
Medical Education and Research Department:
On behalf of the Medical Education and Research Department, Dr I. Sangumani, MD, Director of Medical Education and Research, has sent a request letter to The Director of Medical and Rural Health Services, Teynarnpet, DMS Campus, regarding the establishment of new government medical colleges in certain districts in Tamil Nadu under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme.
In the letter, Dr I. Sangumani detailed the norms set by the National Medical Commission (NMC) for the establishment of new medical colleges in Tamil Nadu. These norms include the requirements for establishing new medical college hospitals, service delivery details of the 6 government headquarters hospitals proposed for conversion to new medical colleges, and the status of land availability.
It has been decided to establish the new medical college hospitals in a phased manner through the Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS) for the "Establishment of new Medical College attached with existing district/referral hospital" under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) scheme. The proposed phases for establishment are as follows:
- Phase 1: Mayiladuthurai, Thirupathur, Tenkasi
- Phase 2: Perambalur, Arakkonam, Ranipet
Allocation Of 25 Acres:
Dr. I. Sangumani has requested The Director of Medical and Rural Health Services to provide suitable instructions to the concerned Joint Director of Health Services to coordinate with the District Collectors for the identification of 25 acres of land for the establishment of new Medical Colleges in the aforementioned districts. She has also provided details of the equipment available and existing staff details in the Government District Headquarters.
