After the calm down of cyclone Michuang, the price of the basic needs of the common people has risen. Due to stagnant water, transportation is risky, so the supply of goods is delayed. Knowing the demand, the sellers have hiked the prices of necessities.

Since the flood washed away the properties, including food items, many suffered from hunger, especially children. In this case, the public suffered greatly due to the non-availability of milk in various parts of Chennai.

The distribution of cow's milk was affected in various places, including the Nungambakkam, Choolaimedu, Ambattur, and Mylapore. Usually, About 14.75 lakh litres of milk is distributed daily in Chennai.

But due to recent rains, supply was very low yesterday morning in most parts of Chennai and the suburbs. Aavin's milk and milk packet distribution by private companies was affected.

Some people from the Choolaimedu area of Chennai complain that "Not only Aavin milk but also private milk packets are unavailable. In some places, half a litre of milk was sold for 100 rupees. Knowing the demand for milk, they increased the price by four times. Therefore, the government should take steps to provide essential milk without shortage."

State Minister for Milk and Dairy Development, T Mano Thangaraj, on Tuesday, informed that the Aavin milk supply has been affected in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Chengalpattu districts as these areas submerged due to heavy rains under the impact of cyclone Michaung and alternative steps are being taken to ensure uninterrupted milk supply.
