The City Police, in collaboration with other departments, has established joint committee squads to combat the illegal sale of prohibited tobacco products. Commissioner V Balakrishnan of Coimbatore City Police chaired a meeting at the Commissionerate on Monday, bringing together various department heads.

During the discussion, Balakrishnan directed police officers to compile and submit FIRs against shopkeepers selling banned tobacco products to the City Municipal Corporation.

In cases where the same sellers persist in selling prohibited tobacco products, the police officers are instructed to take action, in coordination with the corporation, to revoke the shop's license. Balakrishnan emphasized the need for proactive measures to curb the recurrence of such illegal activities.

Coimbatore City Police has introduced the QR code in which the public can register complaints about those who sell banned tobacco products to the City Municipal Corporation. In addition, they have also provided the Prohibition Helpline number 10581.
