Free Laptop Scheme Tamil Nadu 2025 Update - Budget, Timeline


Tamil Nadu is getting ready to restart its popular Free Laptop Scheme for college students. The state government has set aside about Rs.2000 crore for this project. The main goal is to help students stay updated with modern technology and make digital learning easier and more effective for them.
A high-level meeting was recently chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, where officials were instructed to speed up the tender and distribution process.
In the first phase, laptops will be distributed to third-year students studying in government and government-aided colleges across the state.
According to reports, the government has already purchased nearly 10 lakh laptops from leading brands, including Dell. The Tamil Nadu government has sanctioned about Rs.2000 crore for this large-scale project.
The distribution is expected to begin by the end of November or early December, and the goal is to complete delivery to all eligible students by February. The laptops will be distributed district-wise in a planned manner.
Officials said this initiative will significantly support students in improving their digital education and online learning skills.
