Covai Head Constable Govindaraj Packs 3 Gold Medals in the National Masters Athletic Championship

Head Constable Govindaraj packs three gold and one silver medal in the Masters Athletics championship: Govindaraj, a head constable in Kinathukadavu police station in Coimbatore district, won three gold and one silver medal in the 41st National Masters' Athletics Championship in Manipur.  K. Periaiah, the west zone IG of police and Superintendent of Police, Sujithkumar IPS, congratulated him. The district police twitter handle posted his congratulatory posts for Govindaraj, who is to participate in the upcoming international athletics meet in Canada.

The 41st National Master's Athletics Championship was conducted in Khuman Lampak Main Stadium in Imphal in Manipur from February 10 to 14. More than 4000 athletes from 27 states and union territories participated in the championship to win a total of 250 medals. The Manipur Master Athletics Association organized the tournament under the aegis of the Master Athletics Federation of India.

Hosts Manipur won the overall championship with a total of 777 points, and the runner up was Assam with 667 points, and Tamil Nadu came third with 405 points.

  • Manipur got a total of  174 medals including 84 gold, 48 silver, and 42 bronze
  • Assam got a total of 188 medals with 60 gold, 67 silver, and 61 bronze
  • Tamil Nadu got a total of 107 medals with 34 gold, 44 silver, and 29 bronze
 

Out of the 34 gold, head constable Govindaraj got three and one silver medal.

  • He got gold for 100 m running by clocking 11.6 seconds
  • He got silver in the 300 m hurdles by clocking 53 seconds

Tamil Nadu, coming third out of the 27 states participating, and one of our police head constable winning three gold medals, and one silver medal is obviously a pride to Tamil Nadu and its police force.
