T.N CM Stalin Credits ₹5,000 to 1.31 Crore TN Women Under KMUT Ahead of Elections

In a major announcement ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin declared that ₹5,000 has been credited to the bank accounts of 1.31 crore women beneficiaries under the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thittam (KMUT). The move is being seen as a significant financial boost for women across the State.
The Chief Minister announced on February 13, 2026, stating that the disbursement was made in advance to ensure uninterrupted support, especially as the State headed into polls. According to the government, the ₹5,000 package includes multiple components:
Effectively, the package combines ₹3,000 as advance monthly assistance for February, March, and April, along with a separate ₹2,000 summer special grant.
Mr Stalin alleged that there were attempts to stall the scheme for three months, citing the election schedule. However, he said his government acted early to prevent any disruption in financial support to women beneficiaries.
Calling the initiative a personal commitment to the women of Tamil Nadu, the Chief Minister said, "No matter who tries to create obstacles, I will not step back." He described the scheme as part of the government's broader welfare-focused governance model.
Looking ahead, Stalin pledged that if the DMK is voted back to power, the government will implement "Dravidian Model 2.0", under which the monthly assistance for women would be doubled from ₹1,000 to ₹2,000.
Framing the move as a strong commitment to women voters, he said, "With the support of winning Tamil women, we will continue to win." The announcement is widely viewed as a strategic outreach to women, who form a decisive voting bloc in the State.
Beneficiaries who wish to verify their payment status under the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai Thittam can do so through the official government portals. To check eligibility and payment details, the following are required:
If an application was previously rejected, applicants can submit a grievance redressal form on the KMUT portal for re-evaluation of their eligibility.
The announcement, made just before the State Assembly elections, has sparked political debate. While the government describes the payment as welfare support and financial security for women, critics argue it is closely linked to the upcoming polls.
Whether this financial bonanza will translate into electoral gains for the DMK remains to be seen. The scheme has undoubtedly strengthened the party's outreach among women voters, but the final verdict will rest with the people of Tamil Nadu.
As the election approaches, all eyes are on whether this move will tilt public opinion in favour of the ruling party or if voters will weigh broader governance issues before casting their ballots.
