Police arrested a 28-year-old near Velankanni on Saturday (July 20) for sexually harassing a 40-year-old woman and trying to assault her minor daughter. The man tried to escape the police ended up making a sustained injuries on his left arm and right foot.
The Victims:
According to reports, the 40-year-old is a widow and has a teenage daughter who is studying class 12. The woman made her living by grinding and selling flour in Poigainallur village.
The Incident:
In this incident, a woman was returning home on July 19th when a man began stalking her. Upon entering her house, he jumped over the compound wall, attacked her, and threatened to kill her if she made any sound.
He raped the woman in the backyard of her own house. While she was unconscious, the man knowing the presence of the minor tried to assault her as well. The minor girl after sensing his presence started alarming the neighbors for help. Then, the man pushed her and escaped from the place.
The woman sustained injuries to her eyes, ears, chest, and forehead. Both the mother and daughter were taken to Orathur Government Medical College for treatment.
The Arrest:
A complaint was filed against the accused in the Velankanni Police Station. Police formed a team and traced and arrested him near Velankanni.
The Accused:
The accused, identified as K. Muthukumar from Karaikalmedu in Karaikal, sustained injuries while attempting to escape from the police. Muthukumar was admitted to Orathur Government Medical College Hospital.
The Nagapattinam Sessions Judge of the Special Court for POCSO Act visited the medical college and subsequently remanded the accused in custody until August 2nd. And now Muthukumar is held at Tirchy Central Prison.
