Vegetables can be bought online in Chennai in this lockdown period:

Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority has initiated the online purchase of vegetables and fruits in Chennai. There were complaints from the public about the unavailability of essential vegetables since the tightening of lockdown. Now the CMDA has taken a step to resolve the issue.

The CMDA has reportedly attached an online portal to assist the online sale of vegetables from the Koyambedu market. From April 8, 2020, one can directly call and place an order for vegetables in the Koyambedu market through the CMDA's website and online food ordering apps like Zomato, Swiggy, and Dunzo.

However, the CMDA has placed some terms and conditions to purchase vegetables online from the Koyambedu market. The CMDA will only accept bulk orders where the small orders will be delivered by the other food delivery apps associated with CMDA.

According to CMDA, a group of 20 or above families can jointly place bulk orders directly under the CMDA either through its website or through a call to these numbers 9025653376, and 044-24791133. Minimum essential vegetables will be delivered at the doorstep as per the CMDA notice.

Zomato, Swiggy, and Dunzo, like apps, are assigned to accept small orders done by individual families. In another step to simplify the vegetable sales in the city, mobile vegetable shops are to be introduced across the city, said the Greater Chennai Corporation Commissioner G Prakash.

The CMDA has also reviewed the rates of the vegetables to comfort the buyers. According to the reviewed rate plan, the current rate of vegetable are,
