Six construction workers were killed in Ooty today after a portion of a building collapsed during house construction.

A house was being constructed on the land in the Lovedale Gandhi Nagar area of Ooty in the Nilgiris district. All of a sudden, a portion of the under-construction building at the site collapsed unexpectedly. Due to this horrific disaster, six women workers were killed.

The deceased have been identified as Muthulakshmi (36), Sangeetha (30), Bhagyam (36), Uma (35), Shakila (30) and Radha (38). The injured have been identified as Mahesh (23), Shanthi (45), Jayanthi (56) and Thomas (24). Police are investigating the accident at the scene and are still searching for remains under the debris.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin announced condolence and financial assistance to the families of those who lost their lives. He announced financial assistance of Rs 2 Lakhs to those who lost their lives and Rs. 50000 to those who suffered injuries.
