The Met Office has forecast moderate to heavy rains in Tamil Nadu for two more days. The Indian Meteorological Department is monitoring the low-pressure area in the northeast and adjoining East Central Bay of Bengal. Surveillance intensified in northern Andhra Pradesh and adjoining southern Odisha.
The new depression formed in the Central Bay of Bengal strengthened into a severe depression yesterday. It is expected to rain in 14 districts, namely Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Salem, Tiruppur, Erode, Namakkal, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Vellore, Dindigul, Theni, Tiruvannamalai, and Tiruchirappalli. Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal will have slight rain with thunder and lightning.
Indian Meteorological department tweeted, "Depression over Northeast & adjoining East-central Bay of Bengal: Pre-Cyclone Watch for north Andhra Pradesh and adjoining south Odisha coasts."
