The India Meteorological Department has informed that the low-pressure area formed over the Southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas will gradually strengthen and become a low-pressure area and a cyclonic storm.

But even before the formation of this low-pressure area, the coastal districts like Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram, Nagapattinam, and Cuddalore continued to receive heavy rains daily due to the favourable trend of winds blowing from the east direction.

The Indian Meteorological Department informed that due to this low-pressure area and favourable trend of moisture-rich air blowing from the east, the coastal districts, including Chennai, will receive heavy rain for the next 5 days.

Based on the latest weather forecasts, this low-pressure area is likely to strengthen and move towards the Andhra coast north of Chennai as it becomes a cyclonic storm.

However, due to the circulation and movement of the low-pressure area, heavy rains are likely to continue in districts like Chennai, Kanchipuram, Thiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Cuddalore for the next five days and delta districts like Mayiladuthurai, Thiruvarur, Nagai, Thanjavur are likely to receive heavy rains for the next three days.
