Tamil Nadu Weather Report: Heavy Rain Can Be Expected in Chennai

The northeast monsoon is intensifying in Tamil Nadu. It is raining heavily in various districts, including Chennai. The Met Office has forecast moderate to heavy rains in most parts of Tamil Nadu today.

Due to the circulation of the atmospheric pressure prevailing in northern Tamil Nadu and adjoining coastal areas, heavy rain is expected today in Chennai, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai and Nagai. Water has entered the houses, and the public is suffering.

Pondicherry, Ramanathapuram, Madurai, Theni, Dindigul, Tiruppur, Karur, Trichy, Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Kallakurichi and Salem districts will receive heavy to moderate rain with thundershowers at one or two places.

Kanyakumari, Nellai, Tuticorin and Tenkasi districts are likely to receive light to heavy rain with thundershowers at one or two places tomorrow. The delta districts, including Cuddalore, Ariyalur, Perambalur and Dindigul, are likely to receive heavy rains in some areas.

Dr S. Balachandran, head of the Southern Regional Center for Meteorology, said that a low-pressure area would form in the southeastern Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas tomorrow, and it will intensify and move towards the northern Tamil Nadu coast.

The schools announced holidays in Chennai due to heavy and continuous rain. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange warning for 14 districts due to continuous heavy rains.
