The depression over the Bay of Bengal will intensify into a deep depression today, the India Meteorological Department said.

The depression over the Bay of Bengal was located 470 km southeast of Visakhapatnam at 11.30 am yesterday. It is expected to strengthen into a deep depression this morning and move towards Odisha. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu is expected to receive moderate rains till November 19 due to the low atmospheric circulation in the Southwest Bay of Bengal along the Sri Lankan coast.

Atmospheric downward circulation prevails in the Southwest Bay of Bengal along the Sri Lankan coast. Due to this, light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning will likely occur at many places over coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal today and at a few places over Central Tamil Nadu districts. Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Kallakurichi, Thanjavur. Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, and Pudukottai regions received heavy rain in a few places.
