The Chennai Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rains with thunder and lightning in 19 districts in Tamil Nadu due to the circulation of air in the upper layer of the sea in the southwestern Bay of Bengal. 

Atmospheric mantle circulation has formed in the southwestern Bay of Bengal adjacent to Sri Lanka at an altitude of about 3 km. It is expected to move in a north-westerly direction and enter Tamil Nadu.

Pudukottai, Ramanathapuram, Sivagangai, Tuticorin and other Delta districts like Thanjavur, Thiruvarur and Nagapattinam are likely to receive heavy rain with thundershowers at one or two places today.

Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Dindigul, Madurai, Virudhunagar and Theni districts will receive heavy rainfall. Thundershowers will occur at several places in Pudukottai, Ramanathapuram, Virudhunagar, Sivagangai and Madurai districts even for tomorrow (Sunday).

Also, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Erode, Namakkal, Karur, Ariyalur, Perambalur and Trichy districts will receive heavy showers at one or two places. According to the Chennai Meteorological Department, the sky will be clouded in Chennai, and there is a chance of light to moderate rain in a few places in the city. Due to heavy rain across Tamil Nadu, many districts are affected by floods, and the traffic jam had occurred yesterday.
