Southern Railway informed that the Tirunelveli railway station has started functioning as the renovation work has been completed.
Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Thoothukudi, and Kanyakumari districts experienced unprecedented rainfall. In this, the Tirunelveli Junction railway station tracks and platforms were flooded. Similarly, between Tirunelveli junction - and Thalaiyuthu, the rain washed the gravel stones under the track. The lower part of the track in the Srivaikundam area has been eroded by gravel and soil.
Repair work was carried out after the rains subsided. The rainwater accumulated at Tirunelveli Junction railway station was pumped out by motor. Southern Railway has announced that the Nellai Express train from Egmore to Tirunelveli will run as usual till Tirunelveli after the railway station is ready. Earlier, it was announced that this train would be operated till Madurai.
