Tamil Nadu's voter list revision drive is moving at full pace, but a new issue is slowing down online applicants - mismatches in names and initials between Aadhaar and Voter ID.

The special revision of the electoral roll, which began on November 4, 2025, is being carried out across the state with January 1, 2026, as the qualifying date. Officials say the goal is simple: ensure every eligible person is included and outdated entries are cleaned up.

Strong Progress in Trichy

Trichy district has shown strong participation in the drive.

District Collector and Election Officer V. Saravanan reviewed progress across multiple locations, with particular focus on areas with low form returns, including Srirangam East, Musiri, and Thuraiyur.

The New Roadblock: Aadhaar-Voter ID Name Mismatch

While ground-level collection is moving smoothly, the online system is facing a common problem. Many citizens are unable to submit forms because the names on their Voter ID and Aadhaar do not match exactly.

In Tamil Nadu and other southern states, voter cards often display only the given name, while Aadhaar cards normally include the full name with initials or the parent's name. This mismatch is triggering errors on the online portal.

Election officials have acknowledged the issue and are discussing steps to reduce these name-based rejections.

Help Centres Open Across Chennai

To help voters who are stuck or confused, Voter Assistance Centres have been opened in 947 polling stations across 16 Assembly Constituencies in Chennai.

These centres will operate from November 19 to 25, between 10 AM and 6 PM, where citizens can ask questions, get clarifications, and submit forms directly.

Political party Booth Agents are also allowed to hand over filled forms, but they can submit only up to 50 forms per day, and must attach a pledge or commitment form before the draft roll is published.
