Today light to moderate rain with thundershowers may occur in many places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. 17 districts, including Sivagangai, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, Cuddalore, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Pudukottai, Kanyakumari, Nilgiris and Coimbatore are likely to experience heavy rain.

For Chennai, the sky will remain cloudy for the next 24 hours. A few parts of the city may receive heavy to very heavy rain accompanied by thundershowers.

Due to heavy rain, school holidays have been announced in 9 districts today. In various parts of Tamil Nadu, Northeast Monsoon is started and is raining heavily. Due to this, today's holiday has been declared for schools and colleges in Chennai, Tiruvallur and Ranipet.

Similarly, only schools in the Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram and Vellore districts have been given holidays. Also, a holiday has been declared today for the students of classes 1 to 8 in schools in the Tirupattur district. The respective District Collectors have issued this order in the same.
