The Chennai Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall across 14 districts of Tamil Nadu as a low-pressure system crosses over the Bay of Bengal.

Low Pressure:

The depression, which formed on October 15, crosses over Southwest Bay Of Bengal. The system is expected to move west-northwestwards and make landfall along the north Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh coasts between Puducherry and Nellore, near Chennai, on 17th October.

Due to this weather system, light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning is expected in several areas across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.

Heavy Rains:

According to the Meteorological department, heavy to heavy rainfall is anticipated at isolated places in districts such as Tiruvallur, Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Vellore, Tirupattur, Villupuram, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Chennai, and Puducherry. Additionally, heavy rain is likely at isolated locations in Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Kallakurichi, and Cuddalore districts.

Chennai:

In Chennai, the sky is expected to be generally cloudy, with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Temperatures are likely to remain between 26°C and 27°C. The heavy rainfall is not expected in Chennai today.

Coimbatore:

However, in Coimbatore, thunderstorms with rain are expected, with a minimum temperature of 23°C and a maximum of 29°C.

As the Northeast Monsoon has just begun, Tamil Nadu is already experiencing chilly weather and heavy rainfall. Residents are advised to stay alert to the weather, especially in the northern regions of Tamil Nadu, as they may face potential waterlogging due to the monsoon rains.
