Reliance Jio Infocomm has received telecom industry approval to provide satellite-based broadband service. PTI reported that Reliance Jio Satellite Communications received the approval letter on Monday. It also provides telecommunication services through satellite to provide personal mobile network service worldwide.

With this license, Jio can set up and operate GMPCS services for 20 years. This license is granted for 20 years from the commencement of service. This will enable Jio to offer voice and data services via satellite. These mobile satellite networks can operate with Low Earth Orbit (LEO), Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) and Geosynchronous (GEO) satellites.

Elon Musk's Star Link also provides similar satellite-based internet services in countries including the United States and Ukraine. Star Link service is not yet licensed in India. In this case, Jio has got the license to provide satellite-based broadband service in India before Starlink.

As part of this joint venture, infrastructure facilities will be provided to provide satellite-based broadband service in India. Agreements for the provision of broadband services etc., have been entered into in this joint venture.
