WhatsApp, the world's most widely used messaging platform, is reportedly working on a new premium subscription service that could offer users a more personalised experience.
The upcoming plan, tentatively called "WhatsApp Plus," is expected to introduce a range of optional customisation features while keeping the core messaging experience free for everyone.
According to reports from WABetaInfo, the proposed subscription would allow users to customise the app's look and feel in ways not possible in the standard version.
More Personalisation Options for Users
One key highlight of WhatsApp Plus could be enhanced visual customisation. Subscribers may gain access to 14 new WhatsApp app icons, along with multiple colour options for themes and interface accents. This would allow users to personalise the app's appearance based on their preferences.
The subscription may also unlock exclusive stickers and unique ringtones, enabling users to give their WhatsApp notifications a distinctive touch. These ringtones help users quickly identify WhatsApp calls, unlike alerts from other apps.
Expanded Chat Management Features
Another feature reportedly being tested is an increase in the pinned chat limit. Currently, users can pin only three conversations at the top of their chat list. With WhatsApp Plus, that number could increase to 20 pinned chats, making it easier to keep important conversations readily accessible.
Additionally, some interactive message reactions may also be enhanced in the premium version, offering subscribers a slightly richer messaging experience.
Exclusive Content for Subscribers
The premium plan could also provide access to exclusive sticker packs that may not be available in the free version of the app. Over time, WhatsApp may introduce additional subscriber-only features to differentiate the paid experience further.
Despite these additions, WhatsApp's core functions, including messaging, voice notes, and voice or video calls, will remain completely free. The subscription is expected to be entirely optional, meaning users can continue using WhatsApp without any changes if they choose not to subscribe.
Scheduled Messages Feature
Alongside the premium subscription, WhatsApp is reportedly working on another useful feature: scheduled messages. This tool could allow users to compose messages in advance and schedule them for automatic delivery at a specific date and time.
Once scheduled, these messages may appear in a dedicated section within the chat information screen, where users can review, edit, or delete them before they are delivered. The feature could be particularly useful for sending birthday wishes, reminders, or work-related updates without relying on third-party apps.
Still Under Development
For now, WhatsApp Plus is still under development, and Meta has not officially confirmed the final features, pricing, or launch timeline. If introduced, the subscription is expected to be available for both Android and iOS users.
While details remain unconfirmed, the move suggests that WhatsApp may be exploring new ways to enhance personalisation while maintaining its core promise of free communication for billions of users worldwide.
