Global YouTube Outage Triggers' Something Went Wrong' Errors Worldwide. YouTube users worldwide were left frustrated on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, after the video streaming giant suffered a major outage. Thousands of users in India and the United States reported problems, with complaints rapidly increasing on DownDetector, a platform that tracks real-time service disruptions.
At the height of the issue, over 3,20,000 users in the US flagged problems. Between 6:30 am and 7:30 am, nearly 20,000 reports were recorded. Many users said they were unable to open the app or stream content, encountering a repeated "Something went wrong" message instead.
The majority of complaints are linked to App Issues.
Data from DownDetector showed: 74% of users reported problems with the YouTube app, 16% faced video streaming difficulties, 10% experienced trouble accessing the website. The figures are based on user-submitted reports, meaning the total number of affected users could be significantly higher.
The outage was not confined to a single region. Apart from India and the United States, users in Britain, Australia, and Mexico also reported similar disruptions, suggesting a global technical glitch.
Responding to the surge in complaints, YouTube issued a statement saying: "We have been looking into this issue. While we don't have a fix just yet, we're keeping a close eye on it. We will provide updates when they are available."
However, the company did not reveal what caused the disruption or how long it would take to restore services fully.
Even a small technical fault in such large-scale systems can temporarily impact millions of users worldwide. Notably, this comes shortly after ChatGPT experienced a temporary service disruption last week, showing that even major tech companies are not immune to unexpected downtime.
The incident highlights how dependent users have become on digital services for entertainment, education, and communication. When platforms like YouTube face interruptions, the impact is immediate and widespread.
As investigations continue, users await clarity on the cause of the outage and measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
