Sri Lanka Crisis: Gotabaya Rajapaksa Resigns And Lands In Singapore

It has been reported that Gotabaya Rajapaksa has resigned from his presidency and has sent the letter to the Speaker of Sri Lanka via email. Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardene announced the Gotabaya Rajapaksa‘s resignation officially.

The current situation in Sri Lanka has deteriorated to the point of imposing a state of emergency to contain the daily intensification of the struggle. However, the protests continue in Sri Lanka. More importantly, slogans are being raised that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Ranil should resign.

Meanwhile, Gotabaya Rajapaksa escaped to the Maldives. And from there, it was reported that he went to Singapore and Saudi Arabia. In response to the news that Gotabaya has taken refuge in Singapore, "Gotabaya Rajapakse has come to Singapore on a personal trip. And Singapore has not given him asylum," explained the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Singapore.

Following that, it was reported that Gotabaya Rajapaksa had resigned from his presidency and sent his resignation letter to the Speaker of Sri Lanka via email. This was confirmed by the spokesperson of the Speaker of the Sri Lankan Parliament. It is also said that the next step is to take legal steps to consider the resignation letter before officially accepting it.
