It is reported that Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who escaped to Singapore, has been temporarily allowed to stay in Thailand with few conditions.

Due to this tense situation that prevailed in Sri Lanka in the last few months, Gotabaya Rajapaksa secretly left the Presidential Palace. The protestors ransacked this Presidential palace on July 10. The protestors enjoyed the royalty getting inside the presidential house.

Following this, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa fled to Singapore via the Maldives on July 14 and resigned his presidency a day later via email. And now, a few reports say that Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who escaped to Singapore, may go to Thailand as his visa expired Thursday.

Meanwhile, the country's government has announced that the former president of Sri Lanka, Gotabaya Rajapaksa, has been temporarily allowed to stay in Thailand for humanitarian reasons. Thailand's Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said on Wednesday that he would seek a third country to grant him permanent asylum here.

"This is a humanitarian issue. We have made a promise that it's a temporary stay. No [political] activities are allowed, and this will help him find a country to take refuge in," Prayut was quoted as saying by the Bangkok Post newspaper.
