On August 24, Gotabaya Rajapaksa would return to Sri Lanka, said to Udayanga Weeratunga, his nephew. Sri Lanka faced a huge economic crisis this year which turned out to be history. The entire fault was blamed on the Rajapakse family. All the common people claimed that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and his family were responsible for this crisis.

Gotabaya Rajapaksa fled to the Maldives with his family on July 13 after the protests intensified early last month. Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who later went to Singapore, resigned from his presidency. Later he went to Thailand on July 11 after his visa expired in Singapore. The Thai police have advised him to stay in a hotel room in Bangkok's capital for security reasons.

Gotabaya Rajapaksa's nephew Udayanga Weeratunga, the former Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation, said that Gothapaya Rajapaksa would return to Sri Lanka from Thailand next week. Gotabaya is expected to come to Sri Lanka on the 24th.
