A minor boy allegedly raped two-and-half-year-old girl at a village in Maharashtra's Buldhana district, police said on Friday.

Minor rape and toddler rape are increasing in India in the past few months. In this case, we can not forget the Chaitra rape and murder that happened in Hyderabad. The innocent child cannot be blamed for what happened.

Similar to that case, another incident took place in Maharashtra on Friday where a minor boy aged 18 allegedly raped a two-and-half-year-old girl in a village in Maharashtra's Buldhana district.

It is said that the two-and-a-half-year-old girl was playing outside her residence with her grandmother when the accused, a neighbour, approached them and requested permission from the old woman to take the child to a nearby shop for snacks, such as chips and chocolates; the official reported.

The grandmother granted permission for the boy to accompany the toddler. However, en route, the boy led the child to an abandoned room, where he allegedly committed the assault and escaped the scene. The girl child's parents started to worry as their child didn't return home till late evening. Her parents contacted the boy on his mobile phone and initiated a search.

Subsequently, the parents received a distressing call from a clinic reporting that their child had been raped and was discovered unconscious in a room. Concerned locals had brought her to the facility. This shocked the parents of the child victim. They went to the hospital and saw their child unconscious on the bed. The girl is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Akola, and her condition is improving.

In response to a complaint lodged by the child's parents, the authorities have registered an offence under sections 376 (rape) and 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code, along with relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the official confirmed. The boy has been taken into custody and is scheduled to appear before the Juvenile Justice Board.
