The world-famous Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple Chithrai Festival started with the flag hoisting on the 5th. The main event of the Chithrai Festival, the Kallazhagar Vaigai River Descent Ceremony, was held this morning.
It is the belief of the devotees that good and bad will happen in that year depending on what colour saree the Kallazhagar wears and goes down into the Vaigai River.
Lord Kallazhagar started the journey at 7.05 p.m. on Thursday from Azhagarkoil and reached Moondrumavadi at 6.30 a.m. on Friday. Devotees from far places also visited the temple, which is open to the public for the darshan of the Lord throughout the night.
