Chief Minister MK Stalin briefed the legislature on the issue of public welfare. There are several cases pending in the courts regarding public welfare workers. In 1989, 25,354 public welfare workers were recruited for various tasks at the village level. In 1991, 25,234 welfare workers were laid off under the AIADMK regime. When the DMK came back to power in February 1997, the public welfare workers were given jobs again.

The opportunity has been created to give priority to the ex-servicemen who have expressed interest in the post of Job Commitment Project Coordinator in 12,524 village panchayats in the state. The value already fixed for this work has been increased from Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 5,000.

Considering that the public welfare workers have already worked in the village panchayat, It has been decided to give them the opportunity to take care of the work of the village panchayat in addition. For this, it has been decided to provide Rs. 2500 per month from the State Finance Committee subsidy and to pay a total value of Rs 7,500.
